including a learner support unit Sparrow’s including a learner support unit
initiative provides training and supervised employment opportunities
for unemployed parents and members of the community as well
as for graduates of Sparrow’s training programmes. Training
is provided in a variety of skills including beading, sewing
and embroidery and equips trainees with skills they can use
to supplement their own income and empower others in their
communities through the sharing of their knowledge. Contractual
employment is then sourced and undertaken under Sparrow’s
supervision at the workshops. The ultimate aim is that trainees
will establish their own working groups within their communities,
whilst Sparrow monitors their progress and assists them with
gaining contracts, pricing their products, quality control,
business management and the sourcing of new markets. Sparrow
in collaboration with Progression ESDLE and the Department
of Labour have placed the participants in the clothing division
of the including a learner support unit Initiative on a learnership aimed at upgrading
their skills and providing a formal industry related qualification.
