SETA learnership /skills development programmes:
In line with our accreditation we aim to allow all our learners opportunities to participate in learnerships/skills development programmes.
During 2008, 98 of our learners at Sparrow Combined gained access to the following learnership / skills development programmes:
Through the Services SETA in conjunction with Read for Africa:
- Accommodations/Fast Foods/Professional catering programme: 25 learners on a 12-month programme.
- New venture creation learnership: 18 learners on a 12-month programme.
- Cleaning and hygiene programme: 35 learners on a 12-month programme.
- Business admin: 20 learners on a 12-month programme.
Through FIETA in conjunction with Progression:
- Cabinet-making: 10 learners completed a 12-month programme.
It is extremely beneficial to the youth to participate in learnerships, as they gain industry approved qualifications and experience. We will be seeking further opportunities to allow all our learners access to learnerships.
We continuously seek opportunities to place our graduates in suitable positions. Our tracking coordinator then follows up and provides support to the newly employed young adults for a period of two years.
