Volunteers
Sparrow Schools' volunteer programme offers a unique opportunity to students and other volunteers to impact the lives of disadvantaged and learning disabled children. All local and international volunteers are welcome. Whether you are a student or a doctor, you have something meaningful to give. Volunteering at Sparrow is demanding and a lot of hard work. However, the rewards are great… so much so that you will want to return again and again and again.

Getting Involved Locally

Volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved in various projects throughout the year. It allows you to become actively involved and contribute meaningfully to a specific cause. Sparrow Schools has many ways in which volunteers can be involved from reading with a child to offering your professional services. No specific skills or qualifications are required however, the more time and talents you have the better.

Do I have to pay to be a volunteer at Sparrow Schools?
The answer is yes, you do. Sparrow Schools is a charity, has limited financial resources, and is unable to subsidise or even cover the costs of hosting an international volunteer. For this reason, Sparrow requires you to raise enough money to purchase your air tickets to and from Johannesburg, South Africa, make a monthly contribution towards food and accommodation and have enough money for luxury items/ outings/ holidays/ insurance etc.

  • What can I expect from Sparrow?
  • Accommodation with a host family
  • Transport to and from school
  • An awesome experience
